I entered this bookstore filled with Christian books today and it was refreshing. Seeing all the books about leading a life with God as the center of everything.

All my life I’ve considered myself as a Roman Catholic but my family stopped going to church back when I was still in 6th grade. Maybe that’s the reason why I’m not really into deep Christian beliefs and bible stories. However my parents taught me to pray to God every night before going to sleep, and so I’ve retained a deep personal connection and friendship between Him and I.

So as I got more interested in the books mainly because the titles either said something about how to live and lead, how to be happy, how to make a difference in the world and the like, I went to the bible section. I found this book which said Bible for the Youth and it got me interested because it was placed inside this box and the creativity of the marketing team that designed the product really made a good job. And I’ve always wanted my own bible, so I could read more about Jesus and know more about Him. But as I opened the bible it led me to a page, probably an introduction to a verse, and to the side there was this question about homosexuality. It said there that Jesus condemned Homosexual acts and it is an abomination.

Hebrew Scriptures: Old Testament - Leviticus 20:13 said: ”V’ish asher yishkav et zachar mishk’vei ishah to’evah asu shneihem mot yumatu d’meihem bam.” (HEBREW LANGUAGE)

The English Standard version “translates” this as: ”If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.”

I was held back there. Did I just read this? All my life I loved God and believed He only envisioned the greater good but then there’s no lying that I read that and it’s a verse in the Bible. I went out immediately. I said to myself, this isn’t right. There must be a mistake. I thought Jesus was better than this.

I went home and googled the same verse. Leviticus 20:13. Then I discovered that there was a glitch. The English Standard Version is NOT the same as what the REAL translation is. Here’s what I found:

National Gay Pentecostal Alliance (NGPA) interpretation: They state that a word-for-word translation of this verse from the original Hebrew is:

”And a man who will lie down with a male in beds of a woman, both of them have made an abomination; dying they will die. Their blood is on them.” ₃

In modern English this could be translated as:

“If two men engage in homosexual sex while on a woman’s bed, both have committed an abomination. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

This does not generally forbid homosexual behavior between two men. It only limits where the act can be done.

Just to be clear, I’m bisexual and I’m a virgin. I might have sex with a man in the future out of love and I’m not afraid anymore. It just shakens my faith a little that Jesus didn’t express out loud that Homosexuality is not a sin. It is what makes up a number of human beings in this Earth.

Why would God make a homosexual if this person is only later thrown to Hell because of the sexual preference he didn’t have the chance to choose before he was born? Think about it.

I’m still looking for answers. I do still love Jesus Christ our God but.. I can’t help but feel sorry for myself. Why was I born if a dominant part of me is said to be wrong. Does that mean my existence is wrong as well and happiness is either just something that I get to see through a window?

I respect liberation. I adore Lady Gaga and the music that she makes. I support Gay marriage and LGBT rights. What’s the deal with the Catholic church and the religious organizations anyway? Pushing through people’s minds that these things are wrong when they don’t have any evidence that God condones anything they say to be evil. Religion is one of the reasons why people are divided because the people behind the religion interpret and give an ASSUMED truth about this and that. Religion taught society that being different is evil, whereas the MAIN POINT that God wanted us to understand is to LOVE each other. Not HATE.
